Why Our Town Needs a Library Garden

The empty lot behind the town library has been covered in weeds and broken bricks for years. I believe it should become a library garden, and I hope you will agree. First, a garden would give families a peaceful place to read outside. Imagine choosing a book and then reading it on a bench under a maple tree, listening to birds instead of traffic. Second, a garden would help our environment. Flowers would feed bees and butterflies, and trees would give shade on hot summer days. Third, a garden could teach children where food comes from. Classes could plant tomatoes, beans and pumpkins, then read about them inside. Some people say a garden would cost too much. However, volunteers have already offered to help, and the hardware store has promised to donate soil and tools. A library garden would turn a forgotten corner into the heart of our town. Please come to the town meeting on Thursday and vote yes.
